The Break-Up

Georgia Football and I have broken up.

No, this isn't me throwing in the towel and saying that I'm never going to call the dawgs ever again, it's just me stating that I'm tired of being let down.

You see, for the last 3 football seasons, I've been one of the more faithful fans by always believing that no matter how much we were down, how big of an underdog we were, or how much we just SUCKED, we could still do it! I've read every story, every blog, memorized stats, talked shit to fans from all the other schools, traveled to many away games, yelled until I was hoarse, and in the end, no matter what, I get let down. It's so frustrating! That's why I've decided that Georgia Football and I need to not be so serious, so we're just friends now. I don't have enough heart to carry us all the way, and neither does any other football fan. The fact that our coaching staff wants to overlook all the great talent we have, the fact that we're SO conservative and won't do anything but run it up the damn middle (never finding the hole of course), and the fact that THE PLAYERS CAN'T GET FIRED UP has been the ultimate heartbreak. So, I'll continue to call the dawgs, I'll continue to get hoarse at all the games, and I'll continue to use my weekly grocery allowance to purchase football tickets, but because we're just friends now, it won't hurt so much next time we lose to a shitty team like Vandy. Or MS State. Or Kentucky. Because with the lack of heart our team has, losing to those teams is definitely possible. It's like finding your husband/boyfriend in bed with a freakin prostitute or something. Gross.

I'm tired of being heartbroken. Besides, I have something new to fill in the void, and while he lets me down, we can make-up.... ;)

So Go Dawgs. Maybe we'll get back together next year.....And no matter what, it's always great to be a Georgia Bulldog!

*Voice of Larry Munson speaking as "Georgia Football"*:

Listen young'un, it's time to stop crying. We don't give up no matter what happens. Sure, you have felt the sting of a let down. You have spent days, hours, and weeks mulling over the 60 minutes it takes to turn a day into a triumph or a tragedy.

Things aren't going the way we want right now. The chips are down. The fans are booing me and turning their backs. The bandwagon has gone from empty in '99, '00, and '01 to full the past three years, and it appears to be emptying again. Now, more than ever, I need those that bleed my colors. I need people like you, that is chopped full of heart and grit.

In 1997, to say we were underdogs against that Florida team would be a the understatement of the centruy. However, it was people of your mindset and love that had Georgia victorious that day. I could've never done what I did without you.

You used to need me. Remember those semesters where it would seem like a week just became too much and that test didn't go well? Remember how you woke up on Saturday and let time stand still while we beat Auburn nearly to death in 2003 on that beautiful fall day? I know you remember LSU in 2004. Was there never a more perfect game between the hedges?

    I shared that with you.

Now, I need you more than ever. I may not be as glamorous as I was last year or the year before, but I still have a heart. It's beating faintly, but it's still there. This old Dawg is tired, but the fight still exists.

Don't hang your red and black up right now. It hurts too much to see one of my favorites turn their back on me when I need them the most.

Pick me, choose me, love me.

    Sincerely,

    UGA Football
